Accounting Manager – Outsourced Accounting Services
Position Overview
We’re seeking a dynamic Accounting Manager to lead our Local Outsourced Accounting Services Department (ACGDEPT) and drive exceptional client outcomes. This role combines strategic client relationship management with team leadership, offering the opportunity to shape client success while developing the next generation of accounting professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Client Leadership & Service Delivery
- Lead comprehensive client engagements from planning through completion, serving as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor
- Oversee monthly close processes and deliver critical client deliverables including monthly financial statements, annual budgeting, and audit preparation support
- Develop deep expertise in each client’s unique operations, procedures, and internal policies to provide tailored solutions
- Proactively identify financial and operational challenges, presenting innovative solutions to drive client success
- Support new business development initiatives through prospective client meetings, proposal development, and cross-service opportunity identification
Team Leadership & Development
- Direct and mentor senior and staff accountants, ensuring objectives are met efficiently and effectively while fostering professional growth
- Lead recruitment efforts including interviewing candidates and making hiring recommendations
- Plan, assign, and oversee work assignments while conducting performance evaluations and providing constructive feedback
- Champion a collaborative team environment that supports management initiatives and builds positive workplace culture
- Participate in departmental training programs and serve in leadership roles on committees as assigned
Engagement Management & Financial Oversight
- Monitor engagement progress against budgeted time and completion schedules, ensuring profitability and timeliness
- Prepare and review client billing histories, engagement letters, and strategic planning documents for Managing Director approval
- Analyse cost overruns and present additional billing recommendations with clear client communication strategies
- Implement and optimize accounting software solutions and complementary systems (payroll, POS, time & billing platforms)
Client Site Management
- Conduct regular client site visits as needed to maintain strong relationships and ensure service quality
- Facilitate seamless communication between clients and internal teams across multiple locations
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum 6 years of public accounting or equivalent experience
- At least 3 years of supervisory experience with demonstrated leadership success
- Proven track record managing complex client engagements from start to finish
Technical & Communication Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities across all organizational levels
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with cloud-based accounting systems and video conferencing platforms
- Ability to travel to local client sites as business needs require
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced Credentials
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, or related discipline
- Active CPA license or equivalent professional certification
Technical Expertise
- Extensive experience with cloud-based platforms including QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, Yardi, Bill.com, Gusto, Avalara, and similar systems
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools
